FIELD: oil and gas industry.;SUBSTANCE: in the method the petroleum coke is analyzed for ash and volatile matters content. The portion of petroleum coke, received by screening, has the volatile matters content 15-19 wt % and the ash content upto 2 wt %. This fraction of petroleum coke is compacted and placed in the coke oven for the cyclic carbonization. The coke oven is equipped with at least one burner with external heating to heat the space of the primary heating over the petroleum coke cake or the secondary heating space below the coke oven chamber or both. Th petroleum coke is heated upto the temperature of 1000-1550°C during less than 120 hours. The resulting blast furnace coke has a durability index of CSR at least 44% and the index of reactivity CRI less than 33%.;EFFECT: production of coke, which has a higher strength and low reactivity and suitable for use as a blast furnace coke.;16 cl
