Rusal expects trade wars to linger through 2019

Russian aluminium producer Rusal expects the aluminium market to continue to labour under the global trend of protectionism throughout 2019,negatively impacting demand and prices.Rusal’s sales volume fell by 7.2pc year on year in the first quarter to 896,000t,against production volumes that fell by just 0.3pc year on year to 928,000t.Average aluminium prices on the London Metal Exchange were $1,849/t in the first quarter,from over $2,200/t in the first quarter of 2018.
