Slower tanker speeds meant to ofset higher fuel costs ex- pected with the start of new marine fuel regulations in 2020 will likely beneft ultramax and supramax rates more than larger dry bulker rates. Ships burn fuel less fuel at lower speeds, so shipowners with non-scrubber ftted feets could resort to slow steaming come 1 January, when International Maritime Organisation (IMO) 2020 regulations requiring lower sulphur fuel go into efect.
