Australian hard coking coal exports up sharply

Australia’s hard coking coal exports rose to a 27-month high in March after a weak February, as producers preferred shipping hard coking coal over other coal types in a constrained port environment. Australia shipped 11.49mn t of hard coking coal in March, up from 7.28mn t in February and from 9.4mn t in March 2018, according to the March trade data published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). Shipments were at their highest level since December 2016 and the second highest on record.
