India’s 8.5-6.5pc petroleum coke spread narrows

The premium for US Gulf origin 6.5pc sulphur petroleum coke to 8.5pc sulphur Saudi Arabian coke in India narrowed this year, as higher demand from Chinese buyers allowed Saudi sellers to maintain higher prices. The spread between the two prices on a cfr India basis has remained below $5/t since January. This is in contrast to last year, when the spread was over $5/t about 75pc of the time and peaked at more than $10/t in January and August 2018.
