A SUMMARY OF THE ISTFA 2019 PANEL DISCUSSION: WHAT DOES ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE MEAN TO FAILURE ANALYSIS ENGINEERS?

Panel discussions are unique and vital events in every year's ISTFA conference, where invited experts and the audience discuss a topic of interest arising in EDFAS society. For this year, we set a goal to create a panel discussion which aligns with the theme of ISTFA 2019 and fully engages with the attendees. After asking all EDFAS members to vote for the best topic, "What does artificial intelligence (AI) mean to failure analysis engineers" stood out as the top one. Indeed, AI has widely penetrated almost every industrial sector, fueled by the microelectronics industry's increasingly powerful computational capability. Our community naturally wonders, what challenges will AI bring to failure analysis and what benefits will we see from AI?
