Effect of zinc and boron on growth and yield of different cultivars of Garlic (Allium sativum L.)

A field experiment was conducted at the research farm, College of Horticulture, Mandsaur during 2014-15 Twelve treatment combinations comprising of three levels of micronutrients viz., F (RDF+ No micronurrient), F2 (RDF+ one foliar spray of zinc sulphate0.5% and borax 0.3%) and F3 (RDF+ two foliar spray of zinc sulphate 0.5% and borax 0.3%) and four cultivars viz., V, (G-l), V2 (G-41), V3(G-282) and V, (G-50) were tested in factorial randomized block design with three replications. The results revealedthat application oi F3 recorded maximum plant height (81.92cm), number of leaves (8.09), leaf area per plant (1513.68cm~2), polar diameter (4.63cm), weight of bulb (37.27g), number of cloves per bulb (27.42), weight of 100 cloves (152.17g), bulb yield (146.19q/ha) and sulphur content in bulb (1.33%). Amongst the varieties, G-282 showed significantly higher plant height (82.78cm), number of leaves (8.32), leaf area per plant (1495.06cm~2), polai diameter (4.67cm), weight of bulb (37.06g), number of cloves per bulb (28.44), weight of 100 cloves (155.78g), bulb yield (156.85q/ha) and sulphur content in bulb (1.34%). It may be concluded that in addition tc recommended dose of fertilizers two times foliar spray of micronutrients (zinc sulphate 0.5% and borax 0.3%) and cultivar G-282 proved as suitable technologies for the region on yield and economical basis.
