ESREL 2005-Post-conference publication

The papers collected in this issue are extended and impoved versions of selected works presented at the 16th European Safety and Reliability Conference, ESREL 2005, held in Tri-City (Gdynia-Sopot-Gdansk), Poland, on June 27-30 2005 ESREL is an annual conference series that began in 1990 from an initiative of ESRA, the European Safety and Reliability Association. The ESREL Conferences are technical meetings. which provide an opportunity for discussing the televant issues related to the establishment, management and rassurance of safety and reliability in the human-technology-environmentent interactions, which characterize the activities of our modern society. They serve as principal European forum for presentation and discussion of scientific and technical papers covering safety, reliability, risk assessment and management methods as well as their applications in a wide range of industrial, societal and governmental sectors. Indeed, the applications of safety, reliability and risk management and assessment techniques occur across many different domains. the conference is of interest to industrialists, regulators, managers, investors, decision makers, universities, research organizations and government bodies and everyone interested in safety, reliability and risk understanding, assessment, management and communication.
