Exploration of family caregiver strain in the nursing home

摘要

The majority of family caregivers remain actively involved in the lives of their loved ones after they have been admitted to a nursing home for long-term care, providing a range of psychosocial support. There is a paucity of research into this role that family care givers play and this study looked to explore this area.In the US, some one in three people older than 85 years are likely to spend a portion of their remaining lives in a nursing home, the place where one in four Americans die. Based on these facts, there is a need to look into the more intangible aspects of palliative care, such as the assessment of stress, experienced by informal caregivers whose family members reside in a nursing home.
