摘要

In practice, the heat transfer area of the furnace of dry back boilers is determined by the applications of both art and science. The present work aims at computation of the size of a cylindrical furnace by eliminating the approach of trial and experience in the conventional design. The furnace is modeled two-dimensionally using computational fluid dynamics. Convection energy flow is considered at different nodes in the model to obtain a system of simultaneous linear algebraic equations and the equations are solved for different nodal temperatures using tri-diagonal matrix algorithm. The model gives the distribution of temperature inside the furnace and also suggests the ratio of length of the grate to diameter of the furnace.
