Numerical Analysis of Helical Coil Heat Exchanger in the Light of Waste Heat Recovery Applications

摘要

The present work has been carried out with a view to predict the performance of a helical coil heat exchanger in the light of waste heat recovery applications. The computational analysis has been performed using the CFD package Ansys fluent. The analysis has been done using standard k-ε turbulence model. Due to the highly irregular nature of the helical tube and shell, an unstructured grid system has been employed to solve the model. The CFD simulation results have been used to estimate the overall heat transfer coefficient. The results obtained from the computational and experimental analysis have been compared. A correlation has been developed to estimate the tube side heat transfer coefficient in the turbulent regime using regression analysis and the same has been used to evaluate the effectiveness of the helical coiled tube heat exchanger.
