Indian plantation industry head presents budget wishlist to Indian govt

The plantation sector in India has asked the central government to impose a safeguard duty on natural rubber(NR)imports,to protect the livelihood of small producers as well as to maintain domestic NR production capacity.In the pre-budget memorandum to the country's Finance Minister for the incorporation in the Union Budget 2019-20,Upasi(the United Planters Association of South India)complained that increased NR imports and unremunerative prices have forced some producers to abandon rubber tapping.AE Joseph,president of Upasi,warned that if this situation continues,India will be fully dependent on foreign countries for this strategic raw material.
