摘要

Following the recent publication in the Journal of the excellent review of vancomycin therapeutics by Avent etal., we wish to report our experience of patients receiving continuous-infusion vancomycin (CIvanc) as outpatients via Hospital in the Home (HITH). Vancomycin-associated neutropenia is well described in the non-HITH setting, but the observed frequency in the HITH setting is reported as up to 12% of patients from only one, smaller past report. We therefore performed a retrospective chart review of patients at Royal Perth Hospital who received outpatient CIvanc between December 2006 and December 2011, aiming to increase knowledge of the prevalence of and risk factors for neutropenia in an Australian tertiary HITH setting.
