Rio Tinto mulls over expansion plan in North America

Rio Tinto is mulling expansion of its primary aluminium capacity in North America to better serve demand for automotive sheet. The company may adapt its AP60 technology to handle more P1020 grades, along the lines of 400,000 tpy, to meet the growing demand from producers of aluminium automotive sheet. Rio already sends to the US market 80% of the 420,000 tonnes of aluminium produced yearly at its Kitimat smelter in the Canadian province of British Columbia.
