A generator of powerful quasi-rectangular high-voltage pulses based on an N-section adder was created from segments of coaxial lines with a common insulating magnetic circuit. For a matched load, the adder provides an N-fold increase in the voltage amplitude relative to the amplitude of the input pulses with the rise and fall times of the output pulses determined by the relations: 2(N - 1)tau(s)+ tau(RT), 2(N - 1)tau(s)+ tau(FT), respectively, where tau(s) is the electric length of the adder section, tau(RT) is the duration of the front of the input pulse, tau(FT) is the duration of the decline of the input pulse, and N is number of sections. The design and the test results of a 22-section pulse generator with a 50-omega matched load are presented. It has the ability to control the voltage of the output pulses in the range of 1-21 kV, a duration in the range of 100-500 ns, and a pulse repetition rate up to 1 kHz, with a front; the drop in output pulses (at the level of 0.1-0.9) is 100 ns.
