A group of 42 World Trade Organization members on Tuesday promised to apply emergency trade restrictive measures aimed at protecting health in a "targeted" and "proportionate" manner and to lift those measures as soon as possible. The 42 signatories of the May 5 statement do not include world's three largest economies - the U.S., the European Union and China - but many of the so-called "friends of the system," such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway and Switzerland, as well as the United Kingdom, did sign on.
