House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) took back the gavel of the House last week, giving her increased power to trip up President Trump's trade agenda, including his signature trade deal, the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement. Pelosi knows well how to delay trade deals or stall them entirely after presiding over the House during the consideration of trade agreements with Panama, Colombia and South Korea during the George W. Bush administration. And in today's political climate - backed by strong Democratic opposition to Trump - she has little incentive to hand the administration a win on USMCA, analysts told Inside U.S. Trade following her election as speaker on Jan. 3.
