摘要

Posted 9/30/2020. The World Trade Organization is set to allow the European Union to impose $4 billion worth of retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. for subsidies provided to Boeing, according to reports. The EU had been seeking the right to impose tariffs on up to $12 billion, but a WTO arbiter will instead issue a ruling allowing for just more than half of the $7.5 billion the U.S. was awarded last October. The U.S. has been imposing tariffs on $7.5 billion worth of European goods in retaliation for subsidies four EU member states have provided to Airbus. The WTO decision could help set the conditions for the EU and U.S. to return to the negotiating table to resolve the two longstanding aerospace subsidies cases - or it could further entrench the U.S. in its position that the EU must repay some subsidies before a deal can be reached.
