Refractory-grade silicon carbide prices fall as Covid- 19 affects demand

Silicon carbide prices for refractory applications weakened in the month ended Tuesday March 31 because the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic and its economic consequences hit demand for the material in end-markets. Fastmarkets’ price assessment for silicon carbide, refractory grade, 95% SiC min, ddp Europe, fell to €950-1,140 ($1,045- 1,254) per tonne on March 31, compared with €980-1,200 per tonne on February 25, a price which had remained steady over the previous three months. But Fastmarkets’ corresponding monthly price assessment for silicon carbide, refractory grade, 98% SiC min, ddp Europe, remained at €1,100-1,240 per tonne, unchanged over the past four months.
