Chinese flake graphite exports plunge by 15% in 2019

Chinese exports of flake graphite (HS Code: 25041010) dropped by 15% to 114,330 tonnes in 2019 from 134,722 tonnes in 2018, according to official but unconfirmed data seen by Fastmarkets. The drop in export volumes from China is mainly due to a weak overseas refractory sector and the large amount of material produced outside China, especially in Africa, according to market participants. According to the data released, the top five destinations of Chinese flake graphite in 2019 were Japan, India, South Korea, the United States and Iran, with these five countries taking 66% of total Chinese exports.
