PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide flake graphite cast iron having excellent machinability in which machinability can be improved, and the increase of the production cost can be suppressed, and to provide a production method therefor.;SOLUTION: The flake graphite cast iron having excellent machinability has a composition containing, by weight, 2.5 to 4.0% C, 1.7 to 2.8% Si, 0.4 to 0.9% Mn, ≤0.2% P, ≤0.15% S and 100 to 400 ppm N, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. When the flake graphite cast iron is subjected to machining, the amount of wear in the edge part of a cutting tool reduces, and its machinability improves.
