The Generalised System of Preferences(GSP)is a US trade programme designed to promote economic growth in the developing world by providing preferential duty-free entry for up to 4800 products from 129 designated beneficiary countries and territories.The programme allows emerging countries to export goods to the USA without paying duties.India is the world's largest beneficiary nation of GSP and exported goods worth of $ 6.35 bilion under the scheme last year.Now the US President Donald Trump has terminated the GSP with India from 5 June 2019 which means that the USA has ended the India's designation as the beneficiary developing country under the key GSP.In a statement, Donald Trump has said,”I have determined that India has not assured the United States that India will provide equitable and reasonable access to its markets”.
