MEMA's Lobbying Efforts Derail Legislation Potentially Damaging to Oilheat

For more than three years, the Massachusetts Energy Marketers Association (MEMA) has been lobbying against three separate legislative proposals on Beacon Hill that called for taxes on home heating oil gallons sold statewide to fund programs for homeowners to upgrade their heating systems, and potentially switch from heating oil to another fuel source. On February 22, state lawmakers ordered the three legislative proposals be sent to ‘study’-ending the likelihood that these bills will get enacted. ‘I'm most proud of the lobbying efforts MEMA undertook to defeat these measures, said MEMA's President, Michael Ferrante. ‘During the legislative process-especially in 2017 -we were the sole voice of opposition to these proposals at legislative public hearings. I also want to thank members of the association who sent letters of opposition to state lawmakers.’
