The German chemical industry association VCI is pleading for more objectivity in the dis-cussion concerning the transatlantic trade and investment pact TTIP. VCI's director-general Utz Tillmann said: " We urgently need an open, public exchange over the content of the agreement." Tillmann called on both opponents and supporters to talk to each other. "I invite all critics to express their concerns. Total refusal is not helpful. Our industry is open to dialogue. Different views can be reconciled only if we stop holding discussions on TTIP in Germany in the form of trench warfare." With regard to existing fears concerning the regulation of chemicals,Tillmann.said: "As a representative of the chemical industry, I can assure you that TTIP will in no way lead to a softening of standards for the safety of chemicals. We are committed to REACH. Chemicals regulations in the EU and the USA are too different for there to be mutual recognition. However, through TTIP, we want to explore whether joint regulations might make sense in individual cases in the future."
