Improving Safety of Fertilizer Plant at IFFCO Paradeep Unit

IFFCO- Paradeep unit has been certified for International Standard ISO 14001:2015 & OHSAS 18001: 2007 by M/s Bureau Veritas for its Environment Management System and Safety Management System, respectively. The unit is also certified for International Standard ISO 50001:2011 by M/s QS Zurich AG, Zurich, for its Energy Management System. IFFCO received the International recognition from International Fertilizer Association (IFA) for IFA Protect and Sustain Product Stewardship Programme to achieve the level of IFA Product Steward Excellence for three years (2015 to 2018). In addition, making available the best safety infrastructure, some of the effective practices include implementation of online safety forum, online near miss accident reporting system, root cause analysis, conduct of suraksha sabha for contract workers, focus on inter- departmental transparency and communication on safety related issues, adherence to SOPs & SMPs, implementation of work permit system, job safety analysis for critical activities, process safety performance evaluation are to name a few. A structured skill development and training by senior professionals and safety audits at regular intervals is carried out. This paper also highlights the sustained efforts put up by IFFCO-Paradeep unit for implementation of safety system and procedures.
