EFFECT OF ABIOTIC FACTORS ON THE RICE CASEWORM NYMPHULA DEPUNCTALIS (GUENEE) IN MANIPUR

Incidence of rice caseworm, Nymphula depunctalis was studied by quadrat method in two sites viz., Iroisemba and Wabagai on rice varieties, RCM-9 and Jatra-phou in kharif, 2013-2014. At Iroisemba, the maximum adult (2.7± 0.26/ quadrat) :.nd larval populations (2.4±0.45/ quadrat) were recorded from the RCM-9 variety in the first week of September and 3rd week of August, 2013, respectively. At Wabagai, the maximum adult (2.3±0.30/ quadrat) and larval population (1.9±0.41/ quadrat) were during the lastand 2nd week of August, 2013, respectively. Multiple correlation analyses revealed a nonsignificant relationship of abiotic factors with adult population except in Jatra-phou in the Wabagai variety. However, with larval population, the abiotic factors had a significant correlation, and partial correlation (t-test) revealed positive significant relationships with mean temperature and rainfall.
