TASMANIAN RAINFOREST in autumn is about as wet as you can get without jumping in a creek. Even when it's not raining, water runs down the myrtle beech and sassafras trunks and drips from the canopy. Throw in intermittent showers, a little hail and sodden tracks, and you may wonder why anyone would be lying flat on the ground, their face centimetres from a tiny mushroom excitedly saying, "Wow, look at this one."
