Canned wine seemed like an unviable option at the turn of the millennium with wine corroding cans from the inside and having a relatively short shelf life. Co-founders of Barokes, Greg Stokes and Steve Barics, patented Vinsafe in 2001 which stopped this corrosion and extended the shelf life of canned wines. However, canned wine still stagnated for a num6er ofyears with 'traditional' wine drinkers still primarily favouring bottled wine. There was a market for it in Japan where everything from soft drinks to coffee is canned and put in a vending machine, but it wasn't until millennial started to come of drinking age that cans and other alternative wine packaging began to take off.
