Recycling impetus urged in Quebec

A committee of the National Assembly is set to examine the future of recycling in Quebec,particularly glass,a reflection that has already taken place in the Montreal region on a problem that is global in scope.A citizens’group in Quebec City recently invited the public to drop off their empty wine bottles at the National Assembly in exchange for a 25-cent rebate.The initiative was aimed at renewing momentum behind a consignment program-”for glass bottles in Quebec,and was timed to take place when hearings of the transport and environment committe examined the issue of glass recycling in a recent National Assembly meeting.Currently only about half the glass that is thrown out in Quebec currently gets recycled.The rest,despite best efforts to throw it in the recycling bin and programs to collect and process it,ends up in landfills.
