Scarborough ‘can still be backfll’ for NWS LNG

The Scarborough gas feld ofshore Western Australia can still become a back- fll project for the 16.3mn t/yr North West Shelf (NWS) LNG venture when it is revisited for sanctioning in 2021, NWS LNG and Scarborough operator Australian independent Woodside Petroleum says. The Scarborough gas has been earmarked as feedstock for a 5mn t/yr second production train at the existing 4.3mn t/yr Pluto LNG plant that is also operated by Woodside, but the 31-year-old NWS LNG venture is facing declining output as its felds reach peak output. Woodside has further deferred NWS LNG’s existing backfll project — the Browse gas feld development — by a few months from its previous guidance of late 2021.
