Lower nuclear availability is set to boost Japanese thermal power generation in the fourth quarter, even in the event of reduced overall electricity demand. Utility Kansai Electric Power has extended the closure of its 1.18GW Ohi 3 nuclear reactor and the restart date is unclear. Japan’s nuclear availability is set to fall to 2.5GW in October as a result, which would be its lowest in at least three years and down from 6.6GW 12 months earlier.
