Trans-Adriatic Pipeline of to slow start

The Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (Tap) ofcially began commerical operations on 15 November, but gas deliveries to Europe will only start “at the end of this year”, Azeri energy minister Parviz Shahbazov said on 25 November. Some 14 years in the making, the 10bn m~3/yr pipeline will deliver Azeri gas to Greece, Bulgaria and Italy. It has not deviated far from its original concept as a means to ship gas from the Caspian to Italy through southeastern Europe, although it was at times overshadowed by its grander rival, the 31bn m~3/yr Nabucco project.
