Firms keep faith in gas investments

The European majors have been forced to defend their natural gas investment strategies, after lower natural gas and LNG prices squeezed their profts in the second quarter. BP, Shell and Total have long been pushing to increase the share of gas in their output, as they see it as a transitional fuel in the world’s evolution towards a lower-carbon future. “I am a believer that natural gas has got to be part of the solution in the energy transition, combined with renewables,” BP chief executive Bob Dudley says.
