Taiwan’s natural gas consumption is forecast to increase at a steady pace over the next decade, buoyed by the government’s commitment to reducing coal-fred generation and phasing-out nuclear by 2025. The mismatch between its small domestic natural gas production and its large gas power ambitions is expected to result in a strong growth in its LNG imports over the next decade. The current LNG import mix is relatively well-diversifed, featuring Qatar as the dominant supplier with close to 30% of the market share and the remaining shares divvied up among Asia.
