Base oils exports fall in January-June

Russian exports of base oils fell by 9pc on the year to 514,600t in the first half of 2020 because of lower production and reduced global demand.Rail shipments to Russian northwest ports and terminals in the Baltic states-mainly for export to northwest Europe-were nearly 2pc lower than a year earlier at 213,600t in January-June(see table).Destinations for these shipments included the Netherlands and the UK,as well as the UAE and Nigeria.Base oils deliveries by rail to ports on the Black and Azov seas dropped by a fifth on the year to 78,600t in the first six months of 2020.Product from Lukoil's 290,000 b/d Volgograd refinery accounted for about 60pc of all shipments,with the UAE the main destination.Lukoil supplies Volgograd base oils to the Azov Sea port of Taganrog for shipment by shuttle tanker to the 40,000t Mount Olympus floating storage vessel moored in the Kerch strait.
