Controversial changes to Mexico’s power sector have so far left independent gas- fred generators untouched. But they now face the threat of major disruptions, as state-owned CFE looks to reassert its dominance over the industry. The government has until now limited itself to targeting renewables develop- ments in its eforts to transform the power sector, with new projects halted and rules over grid access revised, ostensibly because of reliability concerns. But gas- fred generators could soon face similar obstacles if the government continues to act on a wish list of regulatory changes published by CFE at the end of last year.
