Newcastle port outlines 2020 maintenance, fees

Australia’s largest coal export port of Newcastle is planning for 10 network maintenance closures next year, and will raise navigation fees for some customers. The closures are based around a plan released by Austra- lian Rail Track (ARTC), although additional work is also planned for certain port equipment at other times of the year. January, which is traditionally a slow period because of summer holidays, will be largely clear of maintenance. The program is similar in scope and disruption to that in 2019. ARTC expects to have six major shutdowns on its New South Wales coal rail network in 2020, which will affect de- liveries from all mines in the Hunter valley, Gloucester region and Gunnedah basin, although the rail line that connects PWCS' Carrington terminal to the south will be open. It will also carry out four more minor rail network shutdowns cutting access to the Carrington terminal and closing the line from Gloucester to Maitland.
