Texas coal plant to be indefinitely mothballed

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has cleared a utility cooperative's request to indefinitely mothball the Gibbons Creek coal-fired power plant. The grid operator said earlier this month that the 470MW plant is not critical to grid reliability. Gibbons Creek has been operating only on a seasonal schedule since 2016.
