Japan’s Maebashi power plant starts operations

Japanese infrastructure company Kandenko has started commercial operations at its first biomass power plant at Maebashi, taking advantage of the country’s feed-in tariff (FiT) scheme. The 6.75MW plant in Gunma prefecture began normal generation on 4 March, around nine month later than the target of June 2017, Kandenko said. The Maebashi plant, operated together with woody material supplier Tohsen, uses around 80,000 t/yr of locally-procured thinnings and lumber scraps. It will produce 43,000MWh/yr of electricity for 20 years, meeting demand from around 8,700 households.
