South Korea's ministry of trade, industry and energy has ofcially lowered the amount of renewable energy credits (RECs) that state-owned utilities earn by wood pellet co- fring from the start of this month. The ministry announced last week it would implement fresh changes from 1 July to its policy on REC credits, which had been revised in June 2018. The ministry had only announced its plan to revise policy on REC credits for wood pellet co-fring a few weeks earlier on 10 June. But the ministry did not hold a public hearing before implementing the new policy as this was deemed to be only a partial revision.
