Wood pellet throughput climbs at St Petersburg

Wood pellet throughput at the Russian port of St Petersburg climbed again in 2019, as European industrial demand rose and ice restrictions relaxed, supporting exports. Wood pellet handling reached 444,000t last year, a rise of 49.5pc from 297,000t in 2018, the port authority said. European biomass-fred power capacity increased, with the Netherlands, the UK, Belgium and Denmark leading the charge.
