Dedicated CHP drives Polish PGE biomass burn growth

Polish electricity and heat producer PGE increased its biomass burn further in the third quarter, as higher dedicated biomass generation outweighed stagnant biomass co-fring in lignite and coal units. PGE produced 90GWh of electricity from biomass in the third quarter, more than double on the year. The company’s dedicated biomass units produced 70GWh in the quarter - up by 250pc on the year. Co-fred biomass generation was fat on the year at 20GWh.
