Qualitative composition of insect pest and their natural enemies associated with pigeon pea crop

The diversity of insects pests associated with the pigeon pea (variety Asha) was found belonging to four orders i.e. Lepidoptera (4 families), Hemiptera (2 families), Thysanoptera (1 family) and Diptera (1 family). The family Membracidae, Tortricidae, Noctuidae, Agromyzidae, Coreidae, Thripidae, Lycaenidae and Pterophoridae was represented by one species each. Among eight species recorded, three species belongs to sucking pests group and five species were of pod borer category damaging the buds, flowersand pods of the crop. During the period of crop growth, nine natural enemies viz., Lady bird beetle (Chilomenes sexmaculata Fabricius), Lace wing (Chrysoperla cornea Stephen), Praying mantid (Mantis religiosa), Dragon fly (Crocothemis servilia), Mirid bug (Cyrtorhinus lividipennis), Bracon spp. (Bracon greeni), Eulophid parasitoids (Euderus lividus), Spider spp (Araneus spp.) and Spider spp (Clubiona spp.) were recorded which predate/parasitise the different stages of the pests associated with the pigeon pea crop.
