We thank Dr. White and colleagues for their interest in our study, "A Feasibility Assessment of Behavioral-based Interviewing to Improve Candidate Selection for a Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program" (1). As they suggest in their own pilot study (2), standardizing the applicant selection process is challenging. Objective application scoring and interview tools currently do not exist within graduate medical education, and new recruitment strategies should include scoring rubrics and behavioral interview questions for the optimal selection of candidates. Previous studies have attempted to correlate scoring components or the interview process with rank list (3) or trainee performance (4), with limited predictive success.
