A sizing for glass strands for use in long fibre injection (LFI) moulding that makes the process more efficient has been developed by Owens Corning of Toledo, Ohio, USA. The LFI process involves spraying chopped glass strands into a mould at high speed (around 300 to 1200 m.min~(-1)) in cycles lasting a few tens of seconds, with reactive monomers, before applying a counter-mould. The technique is particularly useful for producing reinforced polyurethane automotive components.
