Nanotube-reinforced traffic bridge opened

A bridge that is believed to be the first balsa-cored deck project to contain single walled carbon nan-otubes (SWCNTs), as well as being the largest nanotube-reinforced object to be moulded to date, has been opened to traffic in Lousiana. Alcan Composites Core Materials of Sins, Switzerland, supplied the balsa cores. Its Director of Sales and Marketing in the Americas, Marc Anderson, says: "The composite bridge deck design is expected to be the first of many in Louisiana to replace traditional steel grating structures over these many regional bayous."
