摘要

Hemostatic agents efficacy has been greatly improved by introduction of thrombin and fibrinogen-based products. Neurosurgeons can now use an array of hemostatic agents, each with different qualities to be used in different circumstances. In this study, the authors evaluated the hemostatic potential and tolerability of a chitosan dextran gel, a novel hemostatic agent, in a sheep model of brain capillary bleeding. Authors clearly demonstrated that chitosan dextran gel is as effective as Gelfoam in controlling bleeding in brain tissue and that it is safe and nontoxic to neural tissue.
