摘要

We would like to report the establishment of a resectable VX-2 rabbit brain tumor model for assessment of intra-operative local administration of drugs. Tumor resection combined with radiotherapy/chemotherapy is the most effective treatment option for both primary and metastatic brain cancer. Due to the aggressive and invasive nature of the tumor cells, local recurrence is very common, and there is a clear need for the development of new treatment. Unfortunately, translation of successful therapies from rodents to human patients is complicated as the new therapies often fail in clinical trials. Utilizing an animal model that allows assessing the efficacy of innovative treatment approaches in combination with surgical resection seems to be crucial, as it has been repeatedly shown that surgical resection can improve efficacy of adjuvant therapies [1, 4, 5]. However, one of the major obstacles is the lack of an easily accessible animal model for testing new treatment regimes in combination with surgery.
