NNPC is running drill stem tests on its appraisal in a frontier basin in Nigeria as the government tries to diversify supply and power away from the Niger Delta.The Kolmani River-2 well spudded in OPL 809 in February in the northeast of the country in the Gongola Basin,the first well in the area in 20 years.Uncommercial quantities of crude and gas were discovered in Kolmani River by Shell in 1998 at the peak of a six-year search by multinationals in the basin.The company was unwilling to appraise the find and then gave up its three blocks.The current well follows on from new 3D seismic shot in 2017 and will drill to a much deeper 14,250ft(4,345m).It is being drilled by Etihad Oilfield Service's Ikenga 101 rig.Halliburton is now said to have been awarded the contract by NNPC's Frontier Exploration Services to run drill stem tests,implying the discovery of hydrocarbons.
