摘要

Listening to the patient is essential for neuroethics. To preempt the accusation of ethical paternalism, discussions of deep brain stimulation (DBS) research should not talk about the patients’ experiences without also talking with as well as listening to the patients themselves. The need to incorporate patients’ perspectives has become common ground. Gilbert and colleagues (2017) report valuable, new primary data on patients’ subjective experiences with DBS and advance this important field of research.
